With travel plans being much more locally focused, now is the time to explore what’s on offer closer to home. And that’s exactly what we did when we discovered the most unique stay that Perth has to offer – an eco-friendly staycation in a yurt! Not only is a yurt stay a little on the quirky side, it was one of the most comfortable stays we’ve enjoyed in a while!
Just a short drive from Perth is the picturesque wooded area of Jarrahdale, where crisp clean air is the norm and the walking trails are abundant. Nestled down the end of a red gravel road is a little eden of three private and eco-friendly yurts that evoke a sense of welcome the minute you lay eyes on them.
We experienced a stay in the Middle Earth Yurt, which was so luxurious that you wouldn’t even realise that it was powered by solar, heated by the little wood burning stove, and lit by a sparkling ring of fairy lights. Middle Earth, indeed! It truly feels like you have stepped into a hidden sanctuary, with gauzy netting surrounding the comfortable bed and a sense of calm permeating the space. There is a shared outdoor camping style shower and bathroom facilities and a camp style kitchen with all the necessities.
There are numerous walking trails close by, and exploring the grounds is a must. Go in search for the large teepee where events can be held, the Big Sky Yurt, or explore a little further and head to Serpentine Falls which is a personal favourite. We are pretty sure we have found the ultimate staycation this winter – not much tops a yurt stay!
